Information for schools
For many years author Alex Tymms and illustrator Tony Wicks have taken part in the Essex Book Festival and we regularly run workshops for children and teenagers at libraries throughout the county. The Amiere series are fictional stories, written to entertain, but are also a great way to introduce your students to the fascinating period of history around the Norman Conquest. We would love to visit your school to show your students how we write and illustrate the Amiere series of books and videos.
We both of us believe that ‘doing’ is better than ‘telling’ and offer an interactive experience where we create an illustrated story with the help of the audience which we later turn into a short video, bringing to life your own unique Amiere tale. We also do caption competitions, illustration and animation demonstrations and give an insight into our characters ‘downtime’ via their own social media channel, CastleNet. You also have a great opportunity to extend the learning by visiting the actual castles that were the inspiration for the Amiere concept - Stansted Mountfitchet and Hedingham.
If you fancy something a bit different to engage your history or language students, fill in the from below to request a call-back!
