Amiere in Colchester

When it was built the Norman Keep at Colchester Castle was the largest in Europe.  The town was the perfect place to hold an Amiere event and thanks to everyone who came along!

Colchester Prettygate Library, Prettygate Road, Colchester CO3 4EQ was the venue on Friday 7th April.

Shields were made, captions written and we even had our own mini shield wall to show what happened at the Battle of Hastings. Brilliant!

Here are some of the shields made:

Great work by Charlotte, Isla and Sam - all of whom spent a long time getting their shields just how they wanted. Charlotte even wrote Amiere on hers in the same colours as found on the book covers! Isla's  'Get Lost' written on her shield inspired us all to stand pretending we were the Saxons at Hastings - where they shouted 'Out! Out!' rather than 'Get Lost'! While Sam spent a long time putting metal around the outside of his to make sure no axe could chop its way through.

Ethan spent a long time and took a lot of care on his design inspired by the poster Paul Smith made for the event. Genius!

Evie did double layers on the bottom of her shield, you can just see the pink and gold showing through the white over the top.

Well done to all. See the designs Tony Wicks came up with for his shields in 'Amiere and the King's Gold' in the Book Series.
The best caption of the day came from Charlotte:

Thanks to everyone who took part and to Paul and the staff at Prettygate Library for hosting us. Don't forget to look out for us at the Great Waltham Art Show. Follow us on Facebook for more details.
